Companies selling popular weight‑loss medications are turning one of the world’s biggest TV events into a major advertising battleground ahead of this year’s Super Bowl. Pharmaceutical firms like Denmark’s Novo Nordisk and the U.S.’s Eli Lilly are spending millions on high‑profile commercials to promote their new pill versions of GLP‑1 weight‑loss drugs to a massive global audience.
Novo Nordisk is showcasing its newly approved Wegovy pill in a 90‑second spot featuring celebrities such as Kenan Thompson and DJ Khaled, highlighting benefits for adults living with obesity. Telehealth company Ro is also entering the fray with a Super Bowl advertisement starring tennis great Serena Williams. Another health brand, Hims & Hers, has a commercial voiced by rapper Common with messaging about broader access to treatments.
Rival drugmaker Eli Lilly plans to promote its own oral weight‑loss product, Zepbound, during NBC’s Super Bowl broadcast and pre‑game shows. With a single 30‑second slot costing up to $10 million, advertisers are betting that the event’s tens of millions of viewers will raise awareness and sales for these new therapies as competition in the market heats up.
